5 Things not to do when buying a car and why

Be a strong buyer but don’t be a jerk
You can be strong and still be pleasant.  Most car salesmen might be out to get all of your money but in the end they are just trying to feed their family and they are human.
If someone is driving a hard bargain but they seem to be a nice enough person then in the end its easier for the manager and salesperson to justify a sale for little or no profit.
It does not hurt to let them know by giving you a great deal you will recommend friends and family and will have all your service work done there.
If you’re a jerk well that’s another matter.
Every now and then someone walks on the showroom floor with a big chip on their shoulder and a scowl on their face ready to do battle. They think that they need to browbeat, bully or insult their way through the car buying process.
I am here to tell you it does not work and in fact a trained professional will use it against you.
Anytime any kind of emotion or impulse including anger plays a part in the process it can and will be used against you by a professional.

Save money on your car Insurance

Save money on your car Insurance

Take in to account insurance when you do your initial car research.
This might seem obvious but when you are doing research and making your short list of possible vehicles don’t just take in to account gas mileage, maintenance costs and sticker prices.
Call for some insurance quotes you may get some surprises.
As general rule the lower cost cars are cheaper to insure. By this I mean most compact cars will be less to insure then full size sedans which in turn may be cheaper to insure then SUVs and the SUVs may be less than a sports car. Regardless call for quotes and take the insurance costs in to account as you are building your short list.

Check your current car insurance policy
There may be some coverage’s that you don’t really need or some things may be duplicated with other policy’s you might have like a home owners policy or a health insurance policy.
Maybe you have some duplication with a triple A policy.
Also check and see if the manufacture of a vehicle you are considering offers roadside assistance on the cars. This may enable you to drop some extra coverage’s as well. Read More…

Don’t fall for these car dealer scams

Don’t fall for these car dealer scams

Some common tactics the dealer will use

The second sticker

This is just a sticker the dealer adds to the car with additional markup. They put it on the car right next to the factory sticker and try to make it look like it belongs there. They may even add some fancy names like market adjustment or addendum sticker. It is just extra markup plain and simple. Let the dealer know you will not pay it or use it as a legitimate negotiating price.

Bait and switch

Here is an old trick in which the dealer promises one thing just to get you in the showroom but when you get there it’s another story. They will try to assure you everything was a mistake or misunderstanding or give you any number of reasons for you to think it was anything but deliberate on their part. The managers famous words to the sales person “just get them in here I don’t care what you have to say.

The today only deal.

Funny thing is the today only deal is offered at most dealers every day.
